PRESS RELEASE: Dews Meadow Farm Shop Opens Its Doors

Happy customers filled the Farm Shop at Dews Meadow Farm on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th May 2007. Andy and Jane Bowler have been trailblazers with additive-free pork and dry-curing of bacon since the mid-80s, "Our focus has always been the customer" says Andy "and our team echo our passion for quality and friendliness. This is the first time that we have held an Open Day and we really meant it!" he continuted "Customers were taken on guided tours of the newly extended preparation areas, and could see all aspects of meat cutting, preparation and packing. Our pride and joy are our new bacon and meat fridges."

"With current concerns about freshness of produce available to the public, we couldn’t have timed our event better" adds Jane "integrity of both our product and the way we sell it has always been the cornerstone of our business, we have nothing to hide, and our customers know that they can ask us any questions, and be shown around at any time."

"We were also delighted that Helen Peacocke, Patron of the Oxfordshire Food Group and Barry Willett from SEEDA (the South East England Development Agency) could join us on Friday" continued Jane "Helen has always been an advocate of good local food and without the support of Barry and his team at DEFRA we would not have been able to undertake the size of extension we required."

Customer numbers doubled on the Friday and Saturday and with the weather remaining dry, children of all ages were able to enjoy the bouncy castle provided by Air Jelly, as well as free refreshments – hot dogs, burgers, curry, sausage rolls, pork pie, pasties, quiche – all made using Dews Meadow Farm pork and produced on the premises; local wine and apple juice as well as fair-trade tea and coffee helped to round off the tastings.

Dews Meadow Farm Shop can be found on the A338 Wantage to Oxford Road at the south entrance to the village of East Hanney and is open from 8.30 am – 5.00 pm on Monday – Saturday, 8.30 am – 6.00 pm on Fridays.
